MEN ON BOATS

by Jaclyn Backhaus

SKIDMORE COLLEGE, SPRING BLACK BOX 2019

“A desert to the agriculturist, a mine to the paleontologist, and a paradise to the artist.” - JOHN WESLEY POWELL

This production of Jaclyn Backhaus’, Men On Boats honors the hindmost claim of this statement as we freely, and joyfully recalibrate our country’s history from those who dominate the mainstream narrative, to the perspective of those who so often do not see themselves represented. I invite you to take this journey with us, and I invite you to allow the journey to affect the way you arrive to our final destination - whatever that may mean to you. Oh! And two important things to note: there are no cis-white men in this ensemble and there are no “boats."

PLATONIC

by Nina Slowinski

SKIDMORE COLLEGE, WINTER 2018

An exploration of how platonic intimacy between women finds the most meaning in the smallest gestures as we grow, while the range of violence against women broadens fatally.

Set to some of Carol King's greatest songs on "Tapestry."

With some of the greatest Vines of all time, too.
